PHUKET TV NEWS NEW AIRPORT TERMINAL OPEN

Newly constructed Phuket X Terminal is ready to open for service from February 5, the press was told today (January 31) at a conference led by Governor Maitree Inthusut and Director of Phuket International Airport Pratuang Sornkam

The 151-million-baht X Terminal, which has a total area of 1,320 square meters, will initially cater for two chartered flights — Jet Asia from China and UT Air from Russia. Passengers will check in here and later be taken by bus to the departure terminal. Initially, there will be a trial period of two weeks starting from February 5.

With a capacity to accommodate 1,000 passengers a day, the new terminal will relieve the main airport terminal, which is already receiving over 37,000 visitors per day and far exceeding its maximum capacity of 20,000.

“We are doing our best to accommodate oversupply of passengers at our present terminal by adding more toilets and expanding the waiting area. We also reduce minimum parking time for airplanes from 6 to 3 hours so we can take in more flights. As to the new airport terminal, we are making steady progress and have already finished 58 parking spaces and a baggage storage area. The multi-strayed parking should be completed within two months from now. Soon we will be ready to receive passengers,” said the Airport Director PratuangSornkam.
Phuket International Airport is expected to receive 12 million passengers in this year alone. With the new terminal, the maximum capacity will increase to 15 million. The administration has projected a net profit for 2014 to be 3,000 million baht, most of which comes from servicing fees and airport taxes.
