Experiences are worth more than Possessions. Kick the Grind

– – – – – – – – – – – – –

South East Asia is amazingly cool, so it’s only suiting they have one of the world’s craziest festivals.
Apparently it all started a thousand years ago when an opera group from China travelled to Phuket, Thailand for a show. They became sick, and the locals suggested to wear white and eat vegetarian food as a remedy. It worked, and that’s how the festival started.

How it cascaded into a pain tolerance festival, I don’t know, nor could I find much solid information on it. It seems the local Chinese are the ones who take part in the sacred rituals and it’s said they do it to be blessed with good fortune.

I’ll take their word for it…

Joel Tan says:

It’s okay if you guys don’t believe in their culture, but you guys don’t
have to say it’s crazy or whatever. Don’t judge if you don’t know the story
behind it. Yes, it may seem scary to some of you, but that doesn’t mean
their culture is crazy or inhumane. They believe in their gods and they
believe by doing this, it shows that their gods exist. This doesn’t only
happen in Thailand. For what I know, this is also practiced in Taiwan and
Singapore. Think for others. No one likes people insulting their religion.
